Irrigation District Public Affairs Specialist
This position
will serve as media relations, public relations and issues management advisor
to the General Manager and MID's senior management team. The successful
candidate must possess well-rounded communications generalist experience with
broad knowledge and demonstrated experience in the principles and practices of
public information management including public relations, media relations,
reputation management and crisis communications. Duties include, but are not
limited to:
· Principal
media spokesperson.
· Public information liaison responsible for
coordinating the release of external and internal information for all MID
divisions.
·Developing and implementing communications
strategies, plans, programs and projects, including the use of paid advertising
and marketing techniques, to support MID's mission and business plan.
· Developing and administering MID public
education programs (energy conservation, canal safety and electric safety).
· Planning, developing content for, and
managing production of video, audio and commercial artwork for a variety of
print, online and multimedia publications and work products.
· Coaching MID managers and staff to
communicate more effectively to reach key organizational objectives.
· Developing and administering budgets of
approximately $1 million for Public Affairs Department and MID public education
programs.
· Developing and carrying out an emergency
response communications program.
·Perform other duties or projects as assigned.

Nov. 7, 2011 Modesto, CA - - The Central Valley Public Relations
Organization (CVPRO) honored recipients of its Excellence in Communication
Awards program on Oct. 27, 2011. The luncheon was held at the Hilmar Cheese Company
Visitors Center. The Excellence in Communication Awards program recognizes
outstanding achievement in communications and public relations for Central Valley
communication professionals. Judged by an outside team of PR professionals,
entries were evaluated individually against specific criteria reflecting
strategic planning, achievement of campaign/materials in relation to objectives
and audiences and overall success of the campaign/tactics.

Mark is the owner of Looker Communications Consulting, Modesto, specializing
in providing communication services to agricultural organizations in the San
Joaquin Valley. His clients include Western United Dairymen and the Almond
Board of California. His services include media relations, as well as
monitoring and reporting on relevant legislative and regulatory issues. He was
cited for being a pioneer in the use of electronic media and social media for
his clients. He is a volunteer member of Stanislaus County's Public Information
Officer emergency response team.

Abraham Lincoln: A Man of His Time. A Man of All Times.
The Stanislaus County Library was one of 40 libraries
selected to host a national traveling exhibit. "Abraham Lincoln: A Man of his
Time. A Man for All Times." The exhibit was promoted through special events and
contests as well as partnerships with The Modesto Bee and the Stanislaus County
Office of Education. The two main objectives for this exhibit were to engage
new audiences and introduce them to the library through the exhibit. The other
objective was to gain positive media for the library, demonstrating the value
of the library to the community. Over 9,000 people visited the Lincoln exhibit,
161 children and teens participated in the bookmark or essay contest, over 200 people
attended the exhibit kickoff and over 25 news items were printed in local
media.

Del Rio
Country Club Rebranding Campaign
Marcia saw the opportunity to polish the Del Rio Country
Club brand and make the marketing align with reality in terms of how the
country club was presented and given information to make informed choices. She
set out to validate the premise that the club offered balance in a busy world
in the areas of health, social, business, family and serenity and not just
golf. More than 30 pieces were designed and printed along with a website to
finalize the rebranding process.

the upcoming performances, current promotions and programs, special write-ups
on performers, donor information and showcase community events held at the
center.

Smoke Out Campaign
In support of the national observance, Great American Smoke
Out, Emanuel Cancer Center ran a concurrent campaign - Celebrate Quitters. The
campaign commenced in late October and culminated on November 18, which is The
Great American Smoke Out. The campaign was designed to motivate smokers to stop
smoking, recognize non-smokers for pledging to never start smoking, and to
motivate those who pledged to stop smoking to enter into Emanuel's free smoking
cessation class.

Did you know that heart disease was the leading cause of
death of American women? The Women Wear Red event was created to bring awareness
to women's heart health. It featured testimonials by women who had been
impacted by heart disease. The keynote speaker was Dr. Kathy E Magliato who
recounted the day she wanted to become a heat surgeon.

was designed to look like a "gift" so that women could gift the DVD to the
women in their life.

Emanuel Medical Center launched a new website in January
2010. Emanuel was looking to upgrade their website in regards to content,
aesthetics and user-ability. The launching of the new website not only involved
a change in the look, it also involved a change of software. The change
elevated the functions we could offer the public and displayed the hospital's
services in a much more professional manner. With the new software, came
cohesion between the consumer website and our employee intranet. It also
provided integration with different products including job application
tracking, a physician portal that allows physicians to see their charts and
read them and online donations. The new
site also provided opportunity for future growth. In early 2012 we will launch a patient portal
which offers patients the opportunity to schedule appointments, obtain their
medical test results, etc.

external website enabling the Public Information Division to have constant,
timely control of all web content. Through the redesign they accomplished, a
more user-friendly site for customers needs, increased website functionality,

that non-informational technology types can create and modify web content,
deployed a "Current Outages, page to inform customers of outages and deployed a
"Hydrological Data" page that updates hourly and answers many frequently asked
questions.

recognized for his contributions over the last 40 years to the public

industry in Stanislaus
County with a special
Certificate of Appreciation. Hansen will be retiring this summer. Prior
to
coming to CSU Stanislaus in 1996, Don was an editor and reporter in
Turlock.

Crisis communications expert draws large crowd
Internationally known crisis communications expert Dr. Vincent Covello attracted an audience of over 125 people at an April 13, 2011 workshop in Modesto, co-sponsored by CVPRO in conjunction with Stanislaus County.
Dr. Covello is currently working with the Japanese government in the wake of the earthquake and tsunami that devestated the north coast of Japan. His past clients have included New York Mayor Guliani during the 9/11 terrorist attack and advising the U.S. government on handling the H1N1 flu outbreak.
Dr. Covello is the director of the Center for Risk Communications, uses proven techniques to meet public and organizational communication challenges posed by public perceptions and misperceptions of risks and benefits.
The day after the workshop. Dr. Covello met with members of the Stanislaus County Emergency PIO team to conduct a more in-depth workshop exploring various crisis communications scenarios. Several CVPRO members were in attendance and expressed appreciation for the real-life examples and advice provided by Dr. Covello.

Summary:
Under general supervision, the
Manager of Marketing Communications is responsible for overseeing all phases of
internal and external production of marketing materials and collateral,
including design, translation, printing, distribution and fulfillment in a

Education and Experience
Required

Bachelor's

Stanislaus County Fair Marketing and Communications Coordinator (Part-time / 119- Day seasonal position)
Job Description
Competencies:
The Marketing and
Communications Coordinator must possess strong creative writing skills and
have a command of the English language, including excellent punctuation and
grammar. This position also requires excellent organization and follow-through
skills. In addition, the Communications Assistant must maintain confidential
information, be politically astute, and demonstrate a strong, professional
demeanor.
The Marketing and
Communications Coordinator must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel and
have basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, and Microsoft Publisher (or Adobe
Illustrator).
Under the supervision and
direction of the Marketing and Communications Director of the Stanislaus County
Fair, the Marketing and Communications Coordinator will be required to perform
the following functions:
1. Gather necessary and
accurate background information and write press releases, entertainment
biographies, and magazine and newspaper articles. Writing will often
comprise more than 70 percent of the assistant's work day.
2. Assist in gathering
publicity information from entertainment agencies, conduct phone or in-person
interviews with entertainers, fair exhibitors, fair vendors, etc. Prepare
first-draft of press releases and/or articles on fair related events and
activities and present to Marketing and Communication Director for review and
editing.
3. Perform data entry into an
Access database of Fair events and activities. Produce queries from the

Fair visitor's guide.
4. Assist in the development of
the Fair media including data collection, writing, proofing, etc.
5. Assist in Ad copy writing,
editing, and correspondence with the advertising company.
6. Assist in planning, writing
and coordinating the production of newspaper special sections related to the
Fair.
7. Helps to serve as a clerical
staff: Duties such as phone calls, message taking, development and maintenance
of Fair files, mail distribution and processing, photo copying, faxing,
deliveries, errands etc.
8. Manages day-to-day aspects
of a project and/or duties as assigned.
9. Present reports defining project
progress, problems and solutions to the communications director.
10. Work directly with the
sponsorship and development director of the sponsorship program and ability to
draft, write, and revise sponsorship contracts.
11. Track sponsorship mentions
in press releases and media.
12. Assist in Fair end sponsor
binders.
13. Create and maintain data
records and in paper files and report monthly to board of directors.
14. Co-Manage the media center
during Fair time with the Social Media/Website Coordinator, which includes
being the hospitality hostess and transportation person to the media guests.
15. Human resource person for
communications, marketing and sponsorship department.
16. Write radio contracts for
radio promotions to the Fair.
17. Ability to request bids to
prospective vendors as needed.
18. Request, track and
disseminate purchase orders.
Hours and Rate of Pay:
The Marketing and
Communications Coordinator position is a 20-hour per week position which begins
November 2011, and continues part-time through July 5, 2012, at which time the
position could become full-time. Part-time hours are flexible and will be
scheduled around the applicant's schedule.
During the weeks of July 12
through July 22, 2012, (the run of the fair) the position is full-time-plus and
requires up to 15 hours per day for 11 consecutive days-no days off during the
run of the fair.
Rate of pay for this position
is $11 to $13 per hour, based on demonstrated education, training and
experience. The position terminates on September 14, 2012.
